You're Here, This Is It: The Inspiration Behind 'If You Can, You Must'
If you can, you must.
Wednesday 20th March 2019 – Mindless Moaning:
Yesterday I felt so flat and demotivated.
In the afternoon I sat with the guys moaning “urgh, I don’t want to go to work today.” Ollie replied “you’re here, this is it.”
Of course he was just humouring the obvious that I was already at work, and as obvious and silly as it was, what I had of course meant was that after lunch, I didn’t want to go back to my desk.
But his comment instantly snapped me out of my mindless moaning; You’re here. This is it.
It reminded me that all we have is right now. Don’t take anything for granted. Stop making excuses. Always give your best and live your best life. This is it. This is your life. How you live it is your choice; how you respond to things out of your control is choice. But don’t take anything for granted.Soon I won't be able to work for a little while and I know I’ll crave a day at my desk. Soon I won’t be able to workout for a little while and I’ll regret all the days I couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed and get motivated to move my body. Soon I won’t be catching my tube home for a little while and, as long as it is, I know I’ll miss the rare opportunity I get to sit still for 40 minutes, sipping my coffee and reading a good book.
When I realised this, I realised how much I actually really appreciate these little mundane things. I’m only human – sometimes work is boring and I’d rather be somewhere else, but most of the time, and when I really give thought to it, I realise how blessed I really am.I’m holding on to this realisation whenever I catch myself mindlessly moaning again. In future I’ll remember how lucky I am to be, do and have all the things I want.
If you can do something, you absolutely should.
Forever be grateful for your abilities and appreciative of the fact not everyone is as fortunate. You’re here. This is it. This is your life. It’s only ever going to be as good as you make it because it’s not “life’s job” – it’s yours. Be encouraged to do the best with what you have.
‘If You Can You Must’ was inspired from a day of mindless moaning.
Although moaning about trivial things is something we are all guilty of, it’s important to remember that if you physically and mentally can do something, you must do it with everything you’ve got.
I had a bit of a wobbler yesterday because no professional will give me a time frame or a definite answer that things will improve. I do understand why. I would probably hold them to it if they did, and everyone is different.
But it seems like such a slow and gradual process and I temporarily lost sight of the fact that even though it might be small, everyday there is an improvement. This bracelet forever reminds me of what I can do, not what I can’t.
Today’s positive for me: I can now walk up the stairs whilst carrying a hot cuppa.
If you can, you must.
What’s yours?
